Precies!

Of course, I had to buy the PDFLib license because most are commercial projects and we needed the PDI feature which allows you for example to use another PDF document as a template. So I bought the PDFLib 5 license, then the PDFLib 6 license update because if I remember correctly PDFLib 5 didn't support unicode or something like that. That's about 1000 euros each time.

Recently, we have upgraded our hosting plan from our hosting company and instead of a single CPU on the server, we now have two for the same price. It's a nice upgrade. Unfortunately, PDFLib didn't like the upgrade and now returns the following error when we generate a document with our serial number "Found 2 CPUs - license covers only 1".

Of course, I have contacted their sales department about the problem. They replied that I should either buy another license for PDFLib 6 for the second CPU, or eventually buy PDFLib 7 which doesn't have this per CPU limitation. Both solutions cost approximately the same price, more than 900 euros !

I don't feel like buying another license and I don't need PDFLib 7 "features". So, farewell PDFLib ! It was nice working with PDFLib but they obviously became too greedy.

I am going to investigate other toolkits. I know that most of them do not support features like PDI, but I can probably find another way around this issue. So far, I have found :

Haru : There is a brand new PECL extension for Haru written by Antony Dovgal which was released last week in version 1.0. Sounds interesting !

FPDF : These are mostly PHP classes. The author claims that it is not as fast as PDFLib but says it performs well. I have already tried this solution before and it was working very well but I was only producing PDF invoices for an e-commerce site. Building a full catalogue might be too much for it. The nice thing is its companion class FPDI which can also import existing PDF files and worked for me the last time I tried.

TCPDF : In the same vein as FPDF, these are a set of PHP classes for generating PDF documents. I need to have a look at it as well. It seems to work with FPDI too.

Panda : There is also a PECL extension for Panda, but I am not sure it is maintained and the project didn't release anything for a long time.

Cairo : Cairo has a backend for PDF rendering. Given its strengths in graphics, this can be interesting but I think it will be too limited in my case as I need to create documents with multiple pages. There is also a PECL Extension for Cairo (there are two actually, but the other one didn't make a release yet).

I now have to evaluate them and rewrite some code for our new server. But in the end, I won't have to deal with PDFLib and its licensing mess anymore, so that's for the better.

Pretty soon, though, these crisp autumn mornings will turn into bitter cold winter days; I’ve already noticed that it’s been harder and harder to get up and run in the mornings as the temperature drops and the wind picks up. And while some runners embrace the cold and will keep running outdoors through the new year, I tend to retreat to the gym during the winter—to the dreaded treadmill.

There are certainly pros and cons to both running on a treadmill or on the road, many of which have already been discussed in this blog. Now here’s one more point for the treadmill: If you run at the gym (or in your home, if you’ve got the setup) while facing a mirror, you may not feel like you’re working as hard. According to British research published this year in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, study participants who watched themselves in a mirror while running on a treadmill used oxygen more efficiently than those who had no reflection to watch. Watching the rhythmic movement of your own legs can apparently help your mind and body relax and get into the zone, making the effort seem easier, reports Women’s Health magazine.

Do you spend your winter workouts indoors or outdoors? What are your tricks for making them easier? Regardless of where you exercise, it’s important to keep it up over the next few months of cold weather and holiday celebrations. New research from the past two weeks piles on the evidence that regular physical activity is imperative to your health.

He also explained that the kids does't look any special they just like a normal kid who is a neighbour to you.

REVIEW TO CHAPTER-1: "Genocide": From Columbine to Hacking

In this chapter explains about a teenage hacker named Genocide who is from such a background family who don’t even have electricity, telephone line and even water supply.

Genocide parents were divorced when he was 5 years and he was raised by his mother. When he was in school he was not interested in subjects like history, chemistry but show his interest only in computers from his childhood. At first he learned some social engineering techniques from his cousine tony and then he learned about telephone network and then he spent much time in spending school network. Genocide in order to complete his graduation upon time he need to pass chemistry but that was big deal to him. So he planed and find his teacher user ID and password by using social engineering techniques and he entered in to her account from school computer and he change his grade and then he graduated upon time Genocide was able to success into his first hack. After that Genocide mother joined part time courses in Alaska university. Genocide using his mother account he accessed in to university network and spent much in learning bulletin, commands, operating system, hardware etc. Then after Genocide tried in using simple commands such as Root…root etc nothing worked then he typed cat/etc/passwd it shadowed nothing. Then he tried to crack the program that decodes passwords using Brute force attack. Genocide first crack program was success in running but he could not complete the program to run because the administrator come to know someone was running crack program and genocide on the other observing that what others were doing and if any eyes were upon him. So he kill the program in the middle and he ran away quickly. Even though he was unsuccessful to end the crack program but he knew everything about the crack program. Then joined the same college in arts department and now he gained his own access in to the university.

Then he started making hacking friends he got four friends named Wizdom, Astroboy, Alexu, and Malcom each of them are skilled in particular areas and they all shared the valuable information. The 5members of group was joined by 10 more each and every worked on different viruses and had seen which one is the best. Then they laid to the foundation of Genocide 2600 hacker group. This was a great time for Genocide to learn more skills on how to access to password files and cracking them, creating dictionary files brute force cracks etc. Genocide 2600 held meetings regularly and was recognized by university as a part of education activity. Once Genocide along with four friends scheduled a computer room and connected to local ISPs, either by polar net or Alaska net using PPP account and then get connected to server and from there to wherever they want in the university. Genocide also setup a web site on the university network named it Genocide 2600. The website was quickly popular they shared valuable cracking and hacking information. Genocide started scanning the target system called “Moon” and then he gained the access which increased the value and visibility of Genocide 2600 web page. As a result page grew and the university had reported him take it off then he buried it deeper. One Friday when they conducted a meeting and discussed about the advanced tools and then meeting came to end every start leaving but a person was standing and requested Genocide to walk with him. Then he show his FBI credentials and said that they were investigating and said that they can prove Genocide involvement in hacking “Moon server”. Then Genocide told his mother that they were suspecting him for what he had

Truncated by Planet PHP, read more at the original (another 3297 bytes)

Statt zwei, drei Kilometer also 70.
